California Association of Food Banks

Keeping food on the table for those in need

When California proposed cutting $52 million from CalFood, food banks across the state didn’t stay quiet. The California Association of Food Banks and its 42 member organizations mobilized fast to protect a program that helps put California-grown food on tables across the state. We helped turn policy into people stories — showing how CalFood supports families facing food insecurity while also strengthening farmers, small businesses and local economies. The result? More than 100 earned media placements, double our goal, and ultimately, $60 million in preserved funding so food banks could keep serving Californians who need them most.

“Reveille was a true partner in our advocacy work to secure essential CalFood funding in the State budget. Thanks to Reveille’s media relations and storytelling expertise, we were everywhere. Our message reached policymakers in targeted legislative districts, priming them with human interest stories and real examples of how CalFood funding is a lifeline for farmers, businesses and local communities. In the end, the Governor signed the budget bill that sustained CalFood funding at $60 million.”
