When CalFood, the state program that provides funding for food banks to purchase California-grown and produced food, faced a proposed $52 million cut, the California Association of Food Banks and its 43 members mobilized quickly. Our team supported their advocacy with a focused media strategy that turned statewide data into compelling human stories, highlighting how CalFood supports families experiencing food insecurity while also strengthening farmers, small businesses and local economies. The campaign generated more than 100 earned media placements, doubling our goal, and lawmakers ultimately preserved $60 million in CalFood funding so food banks can continue serving Californians in need.
“Reveille was a true partner in our advocacy work to secure essential CalFood funding in the State budget. Thanks to Reveille’s media relations and storytelling expertise, we were everywhere. Our message reached policymakers in targeted legislative districts, priming them with human interest stories and real examples of how CalFood funding is a lifeline for farmers, businesses and local communities. In the end, the Governor signed the budget bill that sustained CalFood funding at $60 million.”
