Have you ever wanted to go to a classical concert but been too intimidated by the foreign names, length of the New national data from Feeding America’s annual Map the Meal Gap study shows food insecurity continues to rise here in Orange County. Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County spotlighted findings that 1 in 6 children and 1 in 8 residents experience food insecurity, with the rate among children up 27% from the prior year. Nearly half of these people are ineligible for CalFresh, highlighting the strain on working households struggling to afford nutritious food.
Reveille amplified these findings through coverage with The Orange County Register, LAist, KNX News, and Spectrum News 1, plus national Spanish-language coverage from Spectrum Noticias. Second Harvest CEO Claudia Bonilla Keller put the data into context, sharing what it means for local families and why the Food Bank expects demand for food assistance to grow as CalFresh eligibility changes take effect.
