Lilly Avalos, a junior on Vanguard University’s women’s wrestling team, is serving both on and off the mat this holiday and wrestling season. After early morning practice, Lilly spends her mornings as a volunteer on Vanguard’s behalf, prepping and serving hot meals to older adults with Meals on Wheels Orange County at the Costa Mesa Senior Center. After meeting Lilly and hearing her story first-hand, the Reveille team knew local media would be moved by Lilly’s tenacity, which has flourished in her university community, just as much as we were.
CBS LA and The LA Times’ Daily Pilot joined Lilly at the Costa Mesa Senior Center for their weekly Lunch Cafe, provided by Meals on Wheels Orange County, where they had the opportunity to see Lilly in action. CBS LA sports reporter Jill Painter Lopez, whose last one-on-one interview was with Caitlin Clark, raved about Lilly, going as far as to say, “she’s the real deal.”
