Hunger Action Month Elevates Second Harvest’s Mission

Each September marks Hunger Action Month as a time to raise awareness of food insecurity. You can bet how impactful this annual observance is for Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. To kick off a month of media action, the Food Bank teamed up with FOX 11’s Good Day LA on Hunger Action Day, equipping on-air talent with orange swag and mugs featuring statistics to spotlight the reality that 1 in 9 people, and 1 in 8 children, are food insecure in Orange County.
It was also a milestone month recognizing a decade of Second Harvest’s Permanent School Pantry program, which brings fresh, healthy groceries directly onto school campuses. In the last ten years, the program has distributed nearly 10 million pounds of food, providing families with dignity, convenience, and consistent access to nutrition. Reveille shined the spotlight on this key program, earning coverage in The Orange County Register, TimesOC/Daily Pilot, KNBC4, Spectrum News 1, and KFI News.
