The OC Food Bank, one of many Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAP OC) programs, is a fundamental resource for people battling food insecurity. Distributing over 20 million pounds of food annually, it also provides essentials to nearly 250 other community partners throughout Orange County.
Six days a week you can find small packs of volunteers at the food bank, often working in an assembly line to prepare resources for community members. On what many deem as a “day off,” over 700 people arrived at the food bank, lending their time to pack food boxes for the 25th annual volunteer event hosted on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The annual observance is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, encouraging Americans to volunteer in their local communities. Since its inception, thousands of volunteers have joined CAP OC for this event to honor Dr. King’s legacy by serving Orange County’s most vulnerable.
To capture the fun and spirit of volunteerism, Reveille hosted the Orange County Register, FOX’s Good Day LA, KCAL/KCBS, KNBC, KTLA, KABC, Spectrum News 1 and KFI-AM to speak with OC Food Bank Director Mark Lowry and volunteers about their commitment to give back. It was an incredible day!
