We all recognize that nutritious food promotes health, comfort and well-being, but what about those who come face to face with an empty plate? With crucial relief programs expiring soon and inflation on the rise, food banks have become more essential than ever in serving the local community. Today, food banks are serving 6 million people per month, 1 million more per month than in 2023. The rise in food insecurity numbers prompted more than 400 food bank advocates to gather at the Food ACCESS 2024 conference in Sacramento to build a better future by exploring solutions to creating a hunger-free California. To efficiently and effectively end hunger, the California Association of Food Banks (CAFB) along with food bank leaders, farmers, legislative staff and advocates analyzed the best solutions to increase resources, conduct community outreach, prepare for emergencies and supply our neighborhoods with nutritious food.
In preparation for the annual conference, Reveille sent one of our talented team members up to NorCal to introduce reporters to CAFB and emphasize the need to talk about food insecurity in California. We secured live morning show segments on ABC 10 Sacramento in addition to interviews with multiple Sacramento-based media, including KCRA 3 News and KFBK 93.1 Morning News, with additional media briefings already garnering further interest about CAFB’s Emergency Allotment Report.
