The performing arts can open a whole new world for children—acting, singing, dancing and gaining confidence and interpersonal skills in the process. However, many California schools are unable to offer theater education to their students due to budget constraints. Thanks to a triple partnership between Vanguard University (VU), the Arts and Learning Conservatory (ALC), and the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps grant program, VU student Montana Levya–a double major in technical theater and business–was able to help students from Lincoln Elementary (Newport-Mesa USD) put on a musical production of “The Lion King.”
“This partnership is really special. It’s a win to the fourth power,” said ALC Director of Education Katie Henne. “Everybody benefits from it–the school, the community, the families, the kids, the organization and of course Montana, as well.”
Reveille was overjoyed to share this local story with the media, who came out to capture the rehearsal, talk to Montana and see her in action with stories featured in the Daily Pilot and the Newport Beach Independent.
